Night-time Karting Experience coming to Bushy Park

Night-time Karting Experience coming to Bushy Park

The Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) and Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) both kick off their 2018 championships at Bushy Park Barbados later this month, as the domestic motor sport season moves into a higher gear. And there’s good news for non-competitors as well, as circuit management confirms that the night-time Karting Experience comes on stream next week, with plans also in the pipeline for a new Off-Road Karting location.

With the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) already well into its new season – round two of the 2018 Championship ran off last Sunday (March 4) – it is now the turn of the other clubs: BADD will run Launch Control 1 on the northern drag strip on Sunday, March 18, with BPMSI taking to the International circuit a week later (March 25).

Before then, competitors who have been making ready for the start of the season will enjoy a chance to shake down their competition machines at next Sunday’s (March 11)Track Day; after sessions for race cars, road cars and bikes from 10.00am to 3.00pm, there will be a two-hour slot allocated for BADD members to run between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. While the north of the venue is in use at the end of the day, the Karting Experience will run for the same two hours on the regular track in front of the Pits.

The following Sunday, March 18, BADD’s Launch Control 1 will run from 3.00pm to 8.00pm, with a drifting demo scheduled for around 5.30pm, while club officials create the ‘trees’ for the Eliminations. The Karting Experience will be open over the same five-hour period, so will run under lights for the first time once the sun sets. It will be open to regular patrons, with booking as normal, either by calling 537-1360 or e-mailing experiences@bushyparkbarbados.com. If patrons wish to move on to spectate at the BADD event once their Karting Experience is complete, they will enjoy a discount on the standard spectator fee.

Bushy Park Circuit Inc (BPCI) Operations Manager Amy Willis said: “We are looking forward to launching our night karting. It offers a whole new experience for our existing customers and will believe will open up a new market for us among people who could not fit in a trip out to Bushy Park around their work and home life. Our all-arena lighting allows us to be far more flexible with how and when we use the facility and we will be rolling out more new initiatives in the coming months.”

Entries opened at Motorsport Services, Haggatt Hall, yesterday (Monday) for BPMSI’s Race Meet, which will feature the opening round of the Club’s 2018 Championship in all classes, along with the third round of the Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup, which kicked off with a double-header at the Radical Carnival in January. Entries for BADD’s Launch Control 1 opened last Thursday (March 1), with the entry window for both events due to close on Friday, March 16.
