Season’s biggest entry contests BKA round three

Round three of the 2025 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship at Bushy Park on Sunday (June 22) attracted the year’s biggest entry, including four female karters for the first time in a decade, and brought the total number of points-scorers to date to 23. Calem Maloney won all four races in the Easykart 125cc class for the first time this season, building his lead in the overall standings from five to 13 points, now with a total of 289.

Jaydn Brathwaite (276pts) remains second, having increased his advantage over third-placed Jordyn Hinkson (243pts) in both the overall and 60cc Cadet class standings to 33 points. Aeden Bruce (240pts) maintained his 100 per cent record of wins in the 100cc Juniors to close the gap to Hinkson to three points.

With the 125cc field in double figures for the first time this year, the action was bound to be hot . . . and sometimes too hot, with an unusual amount of contact during racing. While Maloney was fastest in qualifying, with the top six drivers covered by just eight-tenths, Zak Mayers grabbed the advantage in the opening race to lead cousin Jacob and the pole-sitter. Maloney passed Jacob just before half-distance, then Zak two laps later, to claim his seventh win of the season by 1.1secs.

Jacob Mayers seemed set for victory in the reverse grid race two, but Maloney squeezed through on the final lap for the closest winning margin of the day, just two-tenths. Cousin Zak finished third, with Kayleigh Catwell and Graham Bradshaw (both racing for the first time this year) fourth and fifth.

Zak Mayers briefly led race three, but Maloney held sway thereafter, to win by more than 6secs, the Mayers cousins again second and third. When they both dropped back early in the final race, Aaron Blackett and Colin Bradshaw ran second and third to Maloney for much of the distance until Blackett was passed first by Bradshaw, then by Jacob Mayers on the last lap after a spirited recovery from 13th place.

Maloney added 100 points to his total, now at 289 points, with Zak and Jacob Mayers on 222 and 211 points respectively.

Points leader Brathwaite was second to Hinkson in practice for the Easykart 60cc Cadets, but found more speed to top qualifying, then led the first race until just after half-distance. While Hinkson found a way past, Brathwaite was ever-present, crossing the line just half-a-second adrift, with Edward Norris third.

Brathwaite took command in races two and three, leading Hinkson and Norris home, but the day’s final race was less clear-cut. Brathwaite was adjudged to have been responsible for contact with Hinkson a couple of laps from home, which spun the latter out of the lead and into retirement and earned Brathwaite a 10secs penalty. Norris inherited his first Bushy Park win with 2024 champion Shamir Eversley third. Brathwaite still leads the class with 276 points from Hinkson (243pts) and Eversley (195pts).

While Aeden Bruce won all four Easykart 100cc races for the third Race Meet in a row the class is not fully subscribed, reducing the points scored, so his total is 240 points. Pole-sitter Oliver Judd and Sebastian Clarke each finished second twice.
