Mayers early BKA points leader as six karters win
Former Champion Driver Jacob Mayers is the early leader of the 2026 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship. Six different drivers were race-winners at the UpBeat Wholesale Raceday at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (February 22) when the BKA’s 40th season got under way.
Champion in 2024, Mayers was fastest in Practice and Qualifying, winning the day’s first Easykart 125cc race by 1.3secs from Aaron Blackett, with Cody Mark third. The reverse-grid second race produced the liveliest race of the day, with multiple changes of position, but Mayers headed Blackett home again, this time with Aeden Bruce third.\
While there was less action in race three, the winning margin of two-tenths was the closest of the day, Mayers again ahead of Blackett and Bruce. Mayers might have clocked win four but for penalties applied in the last race for a bumper infringement and causing an unavoidable collision, which dropped him to second behind Blackett, with Mark third. The consistent Sebastian Thompson ended the day third on points.
Jaydn Brathwaite and Jordyn Hinkson, who fought a close battle in the Easykart 60cc Cadets last year, have moved to the 100cc Juniors. Fastest in Qualifying, Brathwaite won the first race by 2.3secs from Hinkson with fellow Cadet graduate Jaylan Priddee third.
Priddee then logged his first-ever BKA race win after Brathwaite was black-flagged when his chain guard came off and Hinkson also retired, those non-finishes meaning Priddee is the current leader of the Junior standings despite the race one result being repeated in the day’s other two outings.
With key players having moved on, there would be new winners in the 60cc Cadets. Edward Norris, who finished third last year behind Brathwaite and Hinkson, and Finn Cox – another to claim his first BKA race win – shared them two apiece. Ava Mayers, who collected the new Highest-placed Female Karter award at last month’s Prizegiving, claimed four podium finishes to lie third in the standings behind Norris and Cox.
