Glassesco to sponsor 'Tiny' Harrison Memorial Race Meet
Glassesco was today (Thursday) confirmed as sponsor of this weekend’s (May 6/7) John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Race Meet at Bushy Park Barbados. For the second time this year, Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) and the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD) will share the programme, while the Suzuki Challenge Series will also kick off its third season.
Early leader of the BPMSI Champion Driver title chase Devan McCartney (Zephirins Bakery/C & A Autobody Repair Honda CRX) is among confirmed entries, along with his two closest challengers, Andre Walcott (Courts iFinance/M-Grafix/SE Performance/Courts Optical Suzuki Swift) and Derek Edwards (D & A Mechanical Services/Arrow Construction BMW 318ti Compact). While Walcott looks set to be facing the same opposition as last time in Group 1/Class 1, McCartney has some new challengers in Gp1/C2.
Stuart Garcia (Intelligent Defense Systems/Smith’s Engineering Works BMW 318ti Compact) and Mark Kinch, driving an identical BMW, will join the fray for the first time this season, which will add spice to what is already becoming a lively class competition, with more such BMWs also promised. Last year’s class Champion Adrian Bailey (SRG/M Y Bhana Everything Store/Bliss Water Sports/Tropicana Jewellers/Pro Sales/Lucid Consulting/Tint ‘R’Us/Dove Exhaust Peugeot 205), meanwhile, will be hoping for better luck than last time out, when retirement from the second race hobbled his points score.
From a BADD perspective, Chairman Jason Downey reported 24 entries confirmed by close of play today (Thursday), with the usual last-minute rush anticipated on the last day before entries close. Downey said: “Class winners Andre Walcott in the Suzuki Swift GTi, which will see double-duty this weekend, and Nicholas Pinto in his nitrous-fed Mitsubishi Colt return to continue their fight for the year-end Champion Driver title. It will also be interesting to see whether front-wheel-drive record holder Kevon Griffith can lower his record further in his Suzuki Swift turbo. The 7-second bracket should be full of competition, with the likes of Sherlock Payne (Goodride Tyre Service/Castrol/Goodyear Mitsubishi Colt), Barry Best in his very quick Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII and Dwayne Browne (BRD Enterprises/Inkom/DCR Motorsport/KP Properties/Expressit Nissan Pulsar GTR) all pressing on for good times.”
