Bushy Park to host Williams Industries CMRC International

Bushy Park to host Williams Industries CMRC International

Williams Industries will maintain its unbroken record of title sponsorship for the island's round of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) when the 2017 series reaches round three at Bushy Park Barbados next month (September 2/3). The local conglomerate's support for regional race meets at the St Philip facility dates back to 2004, although Barbados only became part of the current CMRC in 2008.

Preparations are in high gear for the Williams Industries International Race Meet, organised by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI): entries are flowing in, tickets sales opened on yesterday (Monday) and fans will get their first chance to mix with local competitors at the Williams Industries RevUp at 3.30pm this Saturday (August 19) at JAD Performance at Six Roads Industrial Park, St Philip, with free entry and competitions - guess the power and win a prize! Follow BPMSI on Facebook for more news.

Digicel, which had shared title sponsorship with Williams Industries since 2010, remains involved as sponsor of what promise to be three highly-competitive Group 2 races, while Crane & Equipment (Gp3), Hilti Tools (Handicaps), Percy King Auto Parts (Gp1) and Rock Hard Cement (Gp4) are individual race sponsors. The 25-race programme will also include three for CMRC Superstock Bikes, two Rally Car Challenge events, round three of the Sol-backed Suzuki Challenge Series SR3 Cup and Swift Cup and round four of BPMSI's Club Championship.

Registration opened at Motorsport Services last Tuesday (August 8), with the 'Early Bird' closing date for entries next Friday (August 25); after that, entry fees will rise by Bds $50 to $200 until the final closing date the following week, on Tuesday, August 29.

BPMSI chairman Sean Maloney said: "I am really pleased that Williams Industries is on board again as title sponsor and I thank them for their continued support for island motor racing. Bushy Park may not look much like it did when 'Bizzy' Williams first carved the original shape out of an onion field more than 40 years ago, but that link with the past is still so very important to all of us involved in the sport.

"I must also acknowledge the significant support of Seaboard Marine, title sponsor of the CMRC, whose commitment to shipping cars and bikes around the region is vital to moving the championship forward. Thanks, also, to Digicel, Hilti Tools, Percy King Auto Parts and Rock Hard Cement for their sponsorship of our individual groups."

After the first two rounds of the 2017 CMRC, at the Jamwest Raceway in Jamaica in May and the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway in Trinidad & Tobago last month, the early host nations are ahead: T&T's Team Tigers lead the CMRC Country Championship with 895 points, with Jamaica second on 264. Barbados (113pts) is third, three points ahead of Guyana, with the Cayman Islands (36pts) completing the table.

The individual leaders of the five CMRC Groups are: Group 4 (4wd) - Cristian Bourne (T&T), Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII; Gp4 (2wd) - Franklin Boodram (T&T), Renault Megane Trophy; Gp3 - Paul Vieira (T&T), Mazda RX-7; Gp2 - Daryl Ali (T&T), Honda Civic; Superstock - Bryce Prince (GUY), Yamaha R6.
